General Entrance Examination

If you are unable to get a recommendation from your Japanese-language school to apply for admission or if you would like to apply for admission directly from overseas, please apply for the general entrance examination. Please note that in South Korea, Taiwan, China and Hong Kong general entrance examinations are administered locally.
※ Students with “College Student” visa studying at a Japanese-language educational institution are urged to maintain an attendance rate of 80% or more. Students with an attendance rate of less than 80% should consult with us.

  • Most recent educational institution attended (Certificate of graduation from the high school or university in the applicant's home country)
    Translation of documents into Japanese or English; documents in Korean or Chinese are acceptable as is
    (If your home country where a certificate is not issued ,you should brings an actual diploma. But, you should submit copies in the case of mailing,don’t send the actual diploma.) (If you are a prospective high school graduate,you should submit certificate of expected graduation.you are filling an application,submit your certificate of graduation.)
  • Certificate of completion or prospective completion from the applicant's Japanese-language school
    ※ Only applicable to those who are currently or were previously enrolled at a Japanese language institution (will be considered invalid if unsealed)
  • Certificate of attendance and transcript from the applicant's Japanese-language school
    ※ Only applicable to those who are currently or were previously enrolled at a Japanese language institution (will be considered invalid if unsealed)
  • Document certifying the applicant's level of Japanese-language proficiency
    Note:Only applies to those who have taken such tests
    A: Certificate of Level 1 (N1) or Level 2 (N2) of the JLPT
    B: Certificate of achievement (score of 200 points or more) in the Japanese as a Foreign Language subject test of the EJU
    C: Certificate of achievement (score of 400 points or more) in the BJT
  • Passport
    (Those applying from within Japan should bring their actual passports. But, you should submit copies in the case of mailing,don’t send the actual passports. Those applying from overseas should send copies.)
  • Residence card
    (Those applying from within Japan should bring their actual certificates. But, you should submit copies in the case of mailing,don’t send the actual certificates. This is not required for those applying from overseas.)
  • National Health Insurance Card
    (Those applying from within Japan should bring their actual certificates. But, you should submit copies in the case of mailing,don’t send the actual certificates. This is not required for those applying from overseas.)

※ Applicants currently enrolled at a technical school or university in Japan must also submit a certificate of enrollment, attendance records, and academic records.
Note: In some cases, you may be asked to submit other reference materials as necessary.

Judging System

Screening of application documents: The information on application documents is screened.
※ For overseas applicants taking the general admissions test, Examination for Japanese University Admission for International Students (EJU) grades will also be taken into consideration.
Written examination: Examination in Japanese at the N2 level of the JLPT is given.
Short essay: Choose one topic from among several options and write an essay of about 400 characters.
Interview: A comprehensive evaluation of reasons for applying, future goals, motivation for studying, Japanese-language proficiency, etc., is conducted.
※Applicants to the Variety Show Department of the TOKYO ANNOUNCE GAKUIN Performing Arts College must give a performance. Applicants to the Acting Performing Art Department, Announcing Department, and Broadcasting Voice Actor Department must read a script during the interview.

Examination Fees

[Domestic]

For all departments, the fee is 20,000 yen (The bank transfer fee must be borne by the applicant. The screening fee is not refundable.)
Use the payment form designated by the school to pay the screening fee at a bank. After making your payment, paste the payment confirmation slip (A) to your application form.

[Overseas/Korea, Taiwan, China, HongKong]

20,000 yen for all departments (admissions testing fees cannot be refunded). Please pay in Japanese yen.

Application Submission

[Domestic]

Prepare your application form and required attachments and bring them to the TOHO GAKUEN Admission Office in person. However, if you live overseas or far away from the school and cannot file your application at the Admission Office in person, please contact the office in advance and mail your application by simple registered mail (or Express Mail Service [EMS] from overseas).

Always check that all application materials are prepared. Submit your completed applications in the application submission envelope. Application procedures are indicated below.

■South Korea (Seoul) general admissions test
Contact the Korean office and bring the admissions testing fee and application materials.
■Taiwan (Taipei) general admissions test
Contact the Taiwan office and bring the admissions testing fee and application materials.
■China (Shanghai & Hong Kong) general admissions test
Contact the TOHO GAKUEN Enrollment Office in advance. After checking the procedure, send the application materials by EMS to the admissions office.

※ Those who take Examination for Japanese University Admission for International Students (EJU), please submit a transcript.
